August 13: Life is better with these people, AND sprinkles!
We were spoiled this morning with a beautiful sunrise and hot breakfast. Not that many of us were awake for sunrise… but we can always count on our morning crew: Jojo, Sam Wood and Mr. Delly to get the coffee started and good vibes going. After breakfast, we had several activities around camp, some went to yoga, and others received back massages from the world-renounced masseuse Susan Marie Herrington.
Then friends went to art class with Sky, theatre class with Mike or advocacy class led by Myles BH and Rachel.
Rachel teaches high schoolers with disabilities different advocacy skills (using a curriculum she developed) and Myles BH has recently done advocacy work with the Ashmrere Project and Rhode Island public transportation. Together this power couple led us in a discussion about what advocacy means to each of us, and what we want to advocate for in the future. Friends like Stef, Myles Cabbagestalk, Leif and Nanners all shared personal insight about how advocacy has played a role in each of their lives. Empowered individuals, empower other individuals!
Following lunch, some friends peeled off from camp and went boating. From what we heard, Mr. Delly got to drive the boat, Seth loved jumping off the back of the boat, and Lucy convinced the boat people to take her on the jetski. Rumor has it there may be more boating in the future..
Going out for ice cream was the cherry on top of our day. We all headed to Topsy’s for a scoop or two after dinner and enjoyed the sunset with our yummy treats. We had a sweet day! Can’t wait for tomorrow!
