WAYS TO GET INVOLVED
-
Join Us for Work Weekends at Chesterfield Camp
As we restore and prepare Camp Chesterfield for our summer programming, we’re hosting a series of community work weekends this spring. These weekends are a hands-on way to support Ashmere.
Projects will vary but you can expect some brush clearing and trail work, painting and light repairs, cleaning and organizing cabins, building ramps and bunk beds, landscaping and outdoor setup.
No special experience is required for most projects — just a willingness to pitch in. More details can be found lower on this page.

Volunteer With Our Community of Adults with Disabilities
Volunteers support retreats, gatherings, and year-round events that bring people with and without disabilities together in friendship and inclusion.
Our biggest retreat for people with disabilities will takes place June 24 - July 12 and we’ll need many volunteers to make it happen.

More about our work weekends
What to Know
Work weekends are flexible and community-centered, and you’re welcome to join for a day or a full weekend. Projects vary and may include trail and brush clearing, painting and light repairs, cleaning and organizing cabins, building bunk beds or ramps, landscaping, and general site setup. No special experience is required for most tasks — we’ll share guidance on site.
The focus of work weekends shifts as the spring progresses. In March, we’ll concentrate on essential roof repairs, which are best suited for skilled laborers and people comfortable working at heights and in colder conditions. In April, the focus moves to trail work and site preparation, with many hands needed on the ground for clearing and path work. By May, our priority is making cabins and shared spaces accessible so that our entire community can safely participate and contribute.
Dates
March 27–29: Roofing, debris clearing
April 3–5: Roofing, cleanup
April 12–24: Trail clearing, grading
April 17–19: Carpentry, ramp building, cabin setup
May 1–3: Accessibility setup
May 15–17: Construction, assembly
May 29–31:Organization, trail work
June 12–14: Finishing work, setup
June 19–21: Final prep for summer, safety checks
Where to Stay (if you’re traveling in)
If you plan to stay in a hotel or Airbnb in May, we recommend booking soon due to local graduations and events.
On-site cabin camping is available but conditions are very basic, especially in March and early April. Expect no running water or showers until at least mid-April, cold temperatures, rough terrain, and cabins heated only by wood stoves. This setup is best suited for people who are comfortable with primitive camping conditions. We’ll share more specific details about what to expect and what to bring ahead of each weekend.
We are so excited to share that we have received funding from the Massachusetts Office of Outdoor Recreation to be able to host these work weekends.
No one pays or gets paid to be part of the community, so all support goes directly to the cause.
If you have questions or would like to make a financial or in-kind contribution, please do not hesitate to reach out. And if you’re able to support us financially, it will be greatly appreciated. All funds go directly to making sure that Ashmere Project is as accessible as we can possibly make it.
