A community built on inclusion, accessibility, and friendship

Established in 2022, the Ashmere Project provides residential summer retreats for a community of adults with and without disabilities. The Ashmere Project runs 100% on donations.

Please explore our website to learn more about what the Ashmere Project does and how you can get involved!

Our blog is updated daily during our summer retreat! You can also read our blog from past summers here!

A Day in the Life

After a delicious breakfast together made by our amazing cooks, we enjoy a variety of activities: music, art, dance, improv, Each afternoon we jump into Lake Ashmere and spend time swimming, kayaking and canoeing. Some days we travel off camp to museums, to go bowling, out for meals and support local theatre. At night, we host barbecues, perform for each other, have movie nights and take trips into town. We enjoy exploring the Berkshire community and building friendships with our neighbors!

Our mission is to create a community of friends who celebrate diversity and foster inclusion, independence and equity.

Show your support through financial donations or by joining our family of volunteers, and don’t hesitate to reach out!

Old friends, new dream.

We are a group of people, with and without disabilities, who have a history together. Every July (for as long as we can remember) we have come together at a sleep-away camp that offers adults with a wide range of disabilities the chance to enjoy the summer in a small family-like community.

We have now taken the energy, love, and countless hours of volunteer experience that we built at our last home, and create something similar while also pushing the boundaries of what is possible in our community with respect to responsibilities, decision making, and inclusion.

Each summer, we are thrilled to see each other, build something new, and continue to grow to include more and more people - especially those who often aren’t afforded the freedom and autonomy that we will facilitate at Ashmere.

Help us build our dream; from each according to their ability, to each according to their needs.
